FLSmidth’s new side scrapers optimise additive storages through higher reliability and a lower total cost of ownership.

FLSmidth has developed a new side scraper specifically to handle all types of raw material. The concept of the new side scraper is based on efficient raw materials handling, design optimisation and reduction in total cost of ownership.

Global knowledge
The new FLSmidth side scraper has been designed based on the knowledge and experience gained from many installations around the world. Its concept encompasses the full lifecycle, from design to maintenance.

The side scraper offers many benefits. Thanks to its reduced footprint, building costs are minimised. Based on strong, reliable design principles, the side scraper consists of sub-modules allowing it to be optimised for each individual project. It is easy to install and maintain, and its important machine interfaces can be adjusted and maintained throughout its lifetime. It also features flexible control options.

There are many variables in designing optimal storage, and each project is different. The new side scraper can be adapted specifically to individual requirements, making it an easy choice for any situation.

Comprehensive study
Most additive storage buildings in cement plants are covered. The civil investments are in most cases greater than the equipment inside the building, which makes this an important design parameter. FLSmidth has conducted a comprehensive study on building material quantitites related to storage building dimensions and environments. Based on the results of this study, a wide range of side scrapers have been developed to enable the building to be designed optimally.

Additive storages are unique to each cement plant, due to variation in storage capacity, material types and properties. Each project is evaluated specifically based on several design criteria, including: building dimensions, logistic, pile sizes and material properties.

Raw materials characteristics
The raw materials contained in additive storages are highly diverse. They can range from large dry materials, such as limestone, to fine wet materials, such as clay. Before selecting the type of side scraper required for the storages, it is important to understand the characteristics of the raw material. FLSmidth can assist with this by running appropriate tests on the material from its test centres in Denmark and India.

The two main parameters for selecting side scraper types are typically particle size and stickiness. With the new side scraper, FLSmidth can provide the optimal type for each specific project.
